Education Welfare Officer

The Education Welfare Officer (EWO) is employed by the Local Education Authority and acts in a liaison capacity, building up relationships between the school, child, family, and education department.

They are there to support, explain and advise on many of the issues that may prevent a child enjoying or attending school.

They frequently attend the school to monitor the attendance registers and they will liaise with the Headteacher on all aspects of attendance.

Guidance and advice can also be sought in respect of free school meals, uniform and maintenance grants, employment of children bylaws, and children in entertainment etc.
